KidLit Creatives On-Demand Video Classes

After so much encouraging feedback from my teaching and kidlit critiques over the past few years (including with SCBWI), I'm thrilled to announce that I now provide on-demand video classes focusing on writing for children through KidLit Creatives: Write Now!
Veronica Bartles and I have partnered together to help you find your voice as a KidLit Creator through a variety of on-demand videos. We have written picture books, chapter books, middle grade, and young adult books published. Currently Veronica focuses on fiction, while I love fact-filled informational books. We've teamed up to offer KidLit Creatives a variety of classes to meet your needs.

Our goal is to help you find your unique voice as a KidLit Creator.

A few courses to chose from (and find more on the site):

5 Tips for KidLit Writers **FREE Writing Class**
Whether you're just getting started or have several books published, these are our top tips for finding your own way in the publishing world!

Get Published with the Educational Market
Get published! Some say work-for-hire (WFH) is the publishing world's best kept secret. If you enjoy researching and writing about new topics, both fiction and nonfiction, consider WFH through the educational market. Participants will learn about this market and how to approach publishers with a work-for-hire package. If you love writing for children (K-12) and have a flair for simple storytelling, then the educational market is for you!

Facts Are Fun: Informational Writing for Children
Want to share your knowledge and passion with children? This class dives deep into children’s nonfiction and informational fiction writing. Participants will explore the writing process, along with strategies to engage readers with fresh ideas, improve writing, and get published. We’ll discuss brainstorming, research, experts, and more. Hands-on "homework" suggestions will also be provided. This class will equip you to stimulate children’s curiosity.

Beyond Book Signings
(This course is relevant to writers of any genre and for any age group.)
Don't let your next signing disappoint--think outside of the box. Learn how to hook potential readers and buyers at book signings and events beyond the traditional book store. Find readers at libraries, conferences, community events, and more. Sales are important, but engaging readers hooks them for life! Beyond Book Signings provides practical advice for authors (including writers for children and adults). Learn what other authors have done to engage and connect with readers during in-person and virtual events.

Author Newsletters: Connect with Content
(This course is relevant to writers of any genre and for any age group.)
You know you need an author newsletter, but what do you include in it that will be valuable to subscribers? In this course, learn how writers build their platform with a professional and promotional newsletter that is also personal. Your newsletter is your special connection to your readers. Get practical insight, tips, and tools to increase your audience to build your author platform by focusing on newsletter content in this (almost) one-hour course.
